In addition to being a practice test, the PSAT is utilized for selecting students for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Of more than one million entrants, approximately 55,000 will be selected for recognition based on their selection index (found on the score report).  There is no exact cutoff as the qualifying selection index score varies each year.

    The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs.

  • Understanding Your PSAT Score

    On your score report PDF, you can view the three scores available from your assessment—total score, Reading and Writing section score, and Math section score. If you took the SAT with Essay as part of state in-school testing, you will see those scores as well.
