Bringing Together Student-Athletes of All Abilities

For a second consecutive year, Jr.-Sr. High School students participated in an inspiring Special Olympics Top Golf event, bringing together student-athletes of all abilities. Held in Holtsville, the event followed eight weeks of dedicated practice and brought together 190 athletes and Unified Sports partners from local school districts, including Center Moriches, Half Hollow Hills, Harborfields, Islip, Port Jefferson and Southampton. The event preceded a final competition that took place on Feb 13.

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ participation and the effort they put into this event,” coaches Sue Hubbard and Caroline Wills said. “The Special Olympics Top Golf competition is a fantastic way for students of all abilities to come together, build their skills and form meaningful connections with their peers.”

The competition highlighted the spirit of teamwork and inclusion with athletes cheering for each other, celebrating personal achievements and demonstrating the power of sports to unite communities. The students’ commitment to practice and preparation not only strengthened their golf skills but taught valuable life lessons in perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Special Olympics Top Golf Event is just one of many initiatives among students with different abilities aimed at fostering inclusion and building community. The Mattituck-Cutchogue Union Free School District is proud to continue supporting such opportunities for student-athletes.
