Dear Mattituck-Cutchogue-Laurel Families,

Earlier today, the district was notified that an individual driving a silver or white 4-door vehicle similar to a Honda Fit had approached an elementary school student at her bus stop, exited the vehicle and attempted to give the student a stuffed animal. The student ran home, reported the matter to her family, and the police were contacted. The individual who approached the student is described as an older woman who left the scene when the student ran away.

As a school district, our students’ safety remains one of our top priorities. In lieu of this recent incident, we encourage all families to have conversations with their children about strangers and the importance of remaining aware of their surroundings.

If you or any of your family members experience similar situations, please contact the school and/or local police department immediately. Should you have any information about today’s incident, please be sure to reach out.

Sincerely,

Shawn C. Petretti
Superintendent
