Back to School Information
August 15, 2025
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Happy Summer and well wishes from your Mattituck High School family. We hope you are maximizing your time with family and friends. As we prepare for the 2025-2026 school opening, we would like to provide you with some important information.
Student schedules are now available on the Parent Portal. This is a tentative schedule. Some changes may still occur as the master schedule continues to be fine-tuned until the first day of school (Tuesday, September 2).
Seventh grade parents and guardians should mark their calendars for Thursday, August 28 for our annual Seventh Grade Orientation Night and Back to School Night for all grades on Tuesday, September 16 (additional information with details specific to Back to School Night will be sent via parent square next week). Please plan to attend these informative meetings.
As your Principal, I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming school year. To ensure a smooth start, please carefully review all the accompanying materials. Additionally, make sure to check the school website for junior and senior high school information and you will find the district calendar there as well.
Looking forward to a successful school experience. We need you to participate in making this a year to remember. Please get involved in one of our clubs, athletic teams, the arts and music. Our door is always open, and we encourage parents, family members and/or guardians to get involved by attending school functions and joining some of our parent organizations. Consider joining our PTSA and Booster Club. Applications can also be found on our district website.
We are very excited about our opening day of classes on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
With T.U.C.K.E.R Pride,
Patrick K. Burke
Principal
Back-to-School Information
1. CELL PHONES: We require all students to turn off their cell phones and lock them in their lockers before their first period class. Students will be able to retrieve their phones at the end of the school day. Students will have access to hard lines through the Nurse’s Office and the Guidance Office whenever needed and parents or guardians can always reach their children through any of our offices. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Stewart at (631) 298-8471 x1407 or Mr. Burke at (631) 298-8471 x1102.
2. TRANSPORTATION: As always, I urge all parents to please utilize the transportation system to help ease the congestion in the morning. This will also help you save on gas. It is understood that at times parents will need to drop their children off at school. When doing so, please follow signs and instructions so that the process is safe and efficient. The map outlining this procedure can be found on the district website. The Sunrise Bus Company will be transporting Mattituck students again this year. Bus route times and pick-up points can be found on the district website. If you have any questions or concerns about transportation, please contact Mr. Jose Torres at 631-298-4242 Ext. 3504.
3.POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: So many times throughout the year parents confess that they are not aware of various school rules, regulations, policies and procedures. The items of importance related to the State mandated Code of Conduct can be obtained by visiting the district website. Essential points will be reviewed with students at class meetings during the first week of school. We ask that you please take some time and review the various policies and procedures with your children before the start of school to ensure that both you and your child are informed of responsibilities and expectations. Cooperation with our policies will help maintain the high standards Mattituck Jr. Sr. High School sets for its students. Review the district’s Modesty Clause in the Code of Conduct. If you ever have any questions about school rules, regulations, policies and procedures, please feel free to call the school and we will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
Attendance Policy: Please review it carefully, especially the items dealing with parental notes excusing absences. Any absence that is not supported by a parental note within 24 hours of the absence will be marked as illegal and could affect course credit. Code of Conduct: A detailed copy can be obtained by contacting Ms. Heather Stewart, Assistant Principal, or by visiting the district website.Modesty Clause/Dress Code: Failure to comply with this dress code will result in students being asked to change, assigned to ISS or sent home for the day. Specifics are detailed in the district Code of Conduct.
4. STARTING TIME/AFTER-SCHOOL SHUTTLE BUS: The official start of classes is 7:35 AM. Every effort should be made to be in class at the start of first period. A stringent policy on lateness to school is included in the attendance policy, so again, please read it carefully. A shuttle bus will leave from the front of the high school wing at 3:00 PM, arriving at Cutchogue East for their 3:15 PM departure.
5. STUDENT PICTURES: Students will have their photographs taken in physical education classes on either Wednesday, September 17 or Thursday, September 18. The photos will be used on student identification cards. The Pixels order form will be sent out on Parent Square early September. Picture make up day is Wednesday, November 12th.
6. BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT: Back-To-School Night has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 16th for grades 7-12. A letter with specific details for this event will be sent out on Parent Square soon.
7. FINES: Any student who has an outstanding obligation from the 2024-2025 school year (unpaid fine, non-returned books or materials, etc.) is urged to address this at once. If this obligation is not settled by the opening of school, after-school detentions will be assigned beginning the week of September
8. PARKING: Seniors must complete an application to park on school grounds. Applications were distributed to the students in June. Students are encouraged to hand their applications in before the start of school or they will not be able to park on campus the first day. Applications may be picked up in Ms. Stewart’s office. Based on availability, seniors with a full license will be permitted to park in the lot west of the gymnasium. There will be enough parking to accommodate all fully licensed drivers. Because of our experiences with illegal, underage drivers, all students without a full license and underclassmen are not permitted to park on school grounds at any time. Parking on school grounds without the proper authorization from administration will result in disciplinary action.
9. LUNCH PERIODS: Only students in grades 11 and 12 may leave the campus and only seniors can drive provided they adhere to the approved guidelines. Off-campus privileges will be revoked for inappropriate behavior. All juniors and seniors need to return the permission form to leave campus for lunch. These forms were distributed in June. If students have not returned these forms, they will be unable to leave campus for lunch until they do so. Forms can be picked up in Mr. Stewart’s office.
10. SECURITY: In order to assure a safe and positive school climate, our additional security staff will continue to serve as our school security monitors during and after school. Someone will be on duty until 8:00PM in the front lobby of the high school to provide supervision and assistance. All visitors must enter via the main doors located at the high school blue lobby entrance and sign in; all other doors will be locked throughout the day. MHS has Cameras on the interior and exterior of the building for added security.
11. SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Attached is a junior high school supply list. High school list of supplies can be found on the teacher’s google classroom page once school begins.
12. EMERGENCY MEDICAL CONTACT: Please go to the parent portal and check your child’s information to make sure it is correct. If it is not correct, please print a copy of the changes and notify the Registration Office, jcolascione@mufsd.com
